Meet Chesapeake Dentists Dr. Tanya Brown & Dr. Ethan Lafferty

Dr. Tanya Brown, the founder and owner of The Center for Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry is one of a select group of dentists Nationally who has completed the core curriculum at The Dawson Academy of Advanced Dentistry in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Dr. Brown has studied and mastered the areas of cosmetic dentistry, smile design, comprehensive restorative dentistry and implant dentistry. She has completed several courses from Dr. Frank Spear of Spear Education in Scottsdale, Arizona. She has attended courses at the Pankey Institute as well as completed advanced courses on Invisalign. Dr. Brown has earned Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry, which requires over 500 hours of continuing education.

Dr. Brown is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

At Home and In the Community

Dr. Brown grew up just outside of Atlanta, Georgia in Fayetteville, and lives in the Great Bridge/Hickory area of Chesapeake with her husband, Richard, and their cat, Sweet Tart. When not in the office, Dr. Brown can be found jogging around the neighborhood, going to the pool, getting a manicure or pedicure, or working in the yard. She loves traveling and teaching dental students.

Dr. Brown is passionate about empowering other women as well as dental and health related initiatives. Community involvement is important to her because this is the community that she calls home, and she wants it to be a better place! She is especially focused on improving the local Hampton Roads community. She is involved in the Rotary Club of Great Bridge, Children’s Dental Health Month, and Dental Access to Care Days. She volunteers at the Chesapeake Care Clinic and is a YMCA board member.

Meet Dr. Ethan Lafferty

Dr. Ethan Lafferty practices dentistry at The Center for Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry.  He joined our practice because he aligns with Dr. Brown’s Practice vision and has committed to lifelong learning and providing care at the highest level.  Dr. Lafferty has completed several advanced education courses at the prestigious Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida and Dawson Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Dr. Lafferty is focused on providing patients with comprehensive restorative dentistry, smile design, and cosmetic dentistry.  He has expanded his clinical skills in advanced dentistry including endodontics, oral surgery, and implant dentistry. Additionally, he has completed several advanced restorative seminars from the Spear Institute, courses on advanced endodontic techniques, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), oral sedation, and dentures.

Dr. Lafferty is on track to become a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry, which is an accomplishment that less than 5% of Dentists achieve.

At Home and In the Community

Dr. Lafferty was born and raised in Beckley, a small town in the southern coalfields of West Virginia.  He now lives in Chesapeake VA with his wife, Allison, their two cats Loki and Domino, and their quaker parrot, Sahara.  When he is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Lafferty enjoys playing music and going to concerts, taking flight lessons, scuba diving, martial arts, outdoor activities, traveling and exercising.

Dr. Lafferty is passionate about having a balanced life outside of his profession.  He is focused on improving his community through volunteering.  He volunteered at the Health Right Dental Clinic and plans to continue that service in Hampton Roads.  Additionally, he plans to get involved in the community through working with the Shriners and Rotary Club.  He has a passion to improve the awareness for dental care to begin in early childhood through volunteering for local organizations and schools.
