What Dr. Tanya Brown Loves Most About Being A Dentist

Dentist in Chesapeake, VA

WE RECENTLY ASKED DR. BROWN a few questions about his career. Here are his answers – thought you’d find them interesting!

How old were you, and what made you decide you wanted to become a dentist?

“I know it seems crazy- but I distinctly remember at age 5 deciding that I wanted to be a dentist. I was sitting in the dental chair & looked up at my dentist & hygienist who seemed larger than life- I thought this would be ‘so cool.’

Then at age 16, I was lucky enough to start working as a dental assistant and practice administrator. This clenched my love of dentistry & working with patients!”

Where did you attend school and how long have you been practicing?

“I attended Georgia Tech for my undergraduate degree and The Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry for dental school. I graduated in 2000.”

What advice would you give to a young person considering a career in Dentistry?

“Absolutely pursue a career in dentistry! It is one of the best professions in the world. I would definitely advise them to observe and work in an office before making their final decision. Once they decide to be a dentist, become a continual learner and strive for excellence in all that you do.”

What is one thing you find most satisfying about being a dentist?

“I know it sounds kooky- but I truly enjoy seeing patients SMILE! It is so rewarding to help patients overcome their fear of dentistry and to achieve a gorgeous smile.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Dr. Brown better! And, as always, THANKS for being our valued patients and friends!
